Back to the team

Mick started working in independent financial advice in 1984 before concluding his Maths degree at Manchester University, initially as an actuarial trainee before becoming a pension consultant. Mick has specialised in technical pensions ever since, especially Pension Transfers and Pensions on Divorce.

Mick set up and ran a financial services arm for a firm of solicitors in 1993, before setting up his own firm in 1999, which he ran singlehandedly from 2008. Mick won the prestigious Chartered Insurance Institute Scottish Equitable K10 Retirement Options Merit Award in 2002, and in 2007 he was awarded Chartered Financial Planner status.

Mick deals mainly with investments and pensions for individual clients and joined Astute in April 2021.

Mick is a widower and works from home in Egerton, Bolton, where he lives with his 16-year-old daughter Kristin, and her rabbit Bob. Mick has been involved in chess for nearly 50 years, playing occasionally for Manchester at county level, and in the lower reaches of the National League, as well as being Treasurer of Bury Chess Club. Mick was President of the Manchester Chess Federation for 4 years and remains heavily involved in chess administration.

In what little spare time that remains, Mick enjoys reading, walking and Pilates.
